The Joplin Police department is investigating a unique burglary at one of the town's largest employers.

Chief Lane Roberts says that someone got on the roof of the Wal-Mart Supercenter on West Seventh Street and broke through the ceiling of the accounting office between two and three in the morning on Tuesday and stole, "a significant amount of money while the store was open." Roberts says, "I cannot reveal the amount stolen because the investigation is ongoing."

Roberts says that the Bentonville, AR, based retailer has security measures in place that he doesn't want to compromise, "it's a large and complicated investigation that we are continuing to follow leads on," he says. "The moment that we can release more details, we will."

Apostrophe-related nit-pickery again. The apostrophe in "Lot's" in the title needs to go away.

A good rule of thumb for apostrophes is "if you cannot replace the word with "his," "her," "their" or "its" and if it isn't a contraction, then an apostrophe should not be used". (From wikiHow, here: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Apostrophes) The "lot" in this case isn't possessing anything, and it isn't a verb being contracted.

(*digging toe into ground in embarrassment*)

Yeah, well...I hate to get a rep for only commenting to point out errors, but the apostrophe thing is one of my all-time top pet peeves; it makes my nostrils flare and my jaws snap shut, every time. In my younger days, I also jumped up and down on people (metaphorically, of course) for grammar and spelling errors, but I've mellowed. Some, at least.

I think I said it before, but just in case...I really like your blog, and check it out every work-day. I find it much more useful than the News-Leader for following the crime-related news.

I'm the one who should be embarrased. Thanks for reading and helping me.

I know that I am not the writer that I would like to be. I am trying to become better. To me, words are magic!

Again, thank you for your help....I like hearing from you.
