A Christian County man is facing second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges in connection to a deadly stabbing in Nixa on Thursday (08-07-14.)
Authorities in Nixa responded to a call at the Pheasant Run Apartments around 4 p.m. and found 15 year-old Joey Phillips-Clay with a deep laceration to his neck. Witnesses told investigators that Phillips-Clay was slashed across his throat when he interceded in a fight between Padilla and his brother, Brandon Phillips. A relative says Brandon Phillips and Padilla were fighting over a woman.
Phillips-Clay was transported to a hospital in Springfield where he died the following day.

Phillips was scheduled to report to Nixa High school next Tuesday to begin his sophomore year. Zac Rantz, the public information officer for the Nixa School District, says counselors will be available at the school on Friday and again on Monday for any student or family needing grief assistance. The school district has placed a resource tab on the high school website “Young People and Grief” for parents, students and the community.
“It’s a very tragic incident, not one that we want to see happen here in Nixa,” said city spokeswoman Jill Finney.
Padilla is being held in the Christian County jail on $100,000 bond.
A memorial fund has been set up at Empire Bank in the name of Joey Phillips-Clay to help with funeral expenses .
