A little boy from Kimberling City who has been an inspiration to the community and the fire district he is an honorary chief of is in the running for a national contest that could award the family a brand new wheelchair accessible van.

When Victor Kelbaugh went home after he was born 11 years ago he was on hospice and not expected to live.  The little boy suffers from a condition that limits the mobility in his body.

The wheelchair lift on the current van the family uses to transport Victor is broken and has nearly 200,000 miles on it.

May is National Mobility Awareness Month and to celebrate that brand new wheelchair accessible vans are being given away.  Voting ended last week, but if Victor, who had received over 13,000 votes, ends up in the top 10 percent his story will be presented to a panel of judges.

Kelbaugh and his parents are members of the Southern Stone County Fire Protection District.
