The driver of a semi-truck that caused the deaths of two people last year pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter last week.
At a court appearance on Friday (05-08-14) Lei Sun, 32, of Alhambra, Calif., admitted responsibility for the deaths of Lawrence Coan Jr., of Kimberling City, and Corey Gresham, of Macon.
According to the probable cause statement filed in connection to the crash, Lei was driving his tractor-trailer west on Highway 60 in March of 2013 when he failed to stop at the intersection of Farm Road 93. The big rig slammed into the back of Coan's vehicle which then hit Gresham's car. Both vehicles were then crushed into a semi stopped in front of them.
Sun was sentenced to two four year prison sentences which will run concurrent (at the same time) to each other.
The families of both men have filed wrongful death lawsuits against Lei and the company he was driving for, Daniel Orchard Transportation, Inc.
