The mayor of Branson West passed away last week after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Seventy six year-old John Rhodes, who had been mayor since 1998, was a twenty year Veteran of the of the U.S. Military. His first thirteen years were served in the Navy and the last seven in the Army. He served three tours in Vietnam, traveled the world, lived in Germany for a time, and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Bridget Palermo Rhodes. Also surviving are a son, stepson and several grandchildren.
"What separated Mayor Rhodes from the rest was just how honorable of a man he was", said Branson West City Administrator Ken Smith."
"He always had his community and its citizens at heart, and he would be the first to remind us how strong we can be if we stand shoulder to shoulder."

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (02-04-14) at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Branson. Graveside services, with full military honors, are scheduled for Wednesday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
A reception to honor Rhodes will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (02-05-14) in the lower level of Branson West City Hall.
