Authorities in Newton County are investigating a stabbing that took place at the Big Valley Mobile Home Park shortly after 10 last night (03-05-12.)

Chief Deputy Chris Jennings says Jack T. Ballard, 32, of Joplin got into a verbal fight with a man when he returned his son from a custodial visit.

Jennings says the men went outside and Jared Scott Prier, 26, of Joplin allegedly stabbed Jennings with a brass knuckle/knife multiple times.  Jennings, who had to undergo surgery for his wounds, suffered a slice wound to the bicep that cut to the bone, a collapsed lung and other serious injuries in the attack.

Charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action have been filed against Prier.

Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland says authorities received information that Prier was hiding in a house in Ottawa County, Oklahoma.

When authorities went to the house to arrest Prier yesterday (03-07-12) he escaped out a window and fled on foot.  After several hours of searching for the man he was apprehended.

Prier has waived extradition back to Missouri, according to Copeland.
