Authorities in Joplin Police are investigating the shooting of a man last night who is hospitalized in critical condition.

Lt. Brian Lewis says police responded to a call of a shooting in the area of 41st and Joplin streets at 10:3o p.m.

Lewis says two men agreed to meet up in the parking lot of Mays Drug Warehouse for the purpose of drag racing. After they both arrived, the two men got into a verbal altercation, and
Nathan R Spencer, 18, Joplin allegedly shot Andrew Yaple, 22, of Carl Junction several times.

Spencer, who fled the scene before police arrived, but has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
