Travis Lee Cagle

Baxter County Arkansas Sheriff John Montgomery says that ten current and former jail inmates of the Baxter County Detention Center are facing charges related to a disturbance at the jail on New Years Eve.

One of the inmates, Travis Lee Cagle, allegedly became upset with what he was served for dinner and began cursing and yelling. Montgomery says that he talked several other inmates who were assigned to the same housing unit to throw their food and food trays at the Control Tower windows inside the Detention Center. The inmates were being served the standard evening meal of beans and cornbread.

Sheriff’s Deputies and officers from the Mountain Home Police were summoned to quell the disturbance and remove Cagle and others into isolation holding cells, thereby restoring order to the facility. Those involved were charged as follows:

Travis Lee Cagle, 30 years old of Calico Rock, was convicted of property theft and was in the Baxter County jail awaiting transfer to an Arkansas prison. He now faces charges of Inciting a Riot – which is a misdemeanor.

The remaining inmates were charged with Impairing the Operations of a Vital Public Facility, a Class A Misdemeanor offense, which was enacted into law by the General Assembly as Act 1210 of 2009 after the need for such a law was brought to the attention of the General Assembly by the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office. They are:

Doyle G. George, 36 years old of Mountain Home
Jason S. McAndrew, 23 years old of Harrison
George R. Parish, 57 years old of Mountain Home
Trevor C. Thompson, 19 years old of Mountain Home
Joshua M. Golden, 25 years old of Mountain Home
David M. Corbin, 24 years old of Mountain Home
William H. Hanson, 45 years old of Mountain Home
Mitchell G. Dempsey, 20 years old of Mountain Home
Michael A. Behrens, 19 years old of Mountain Home

Each of these is scheduled to appear in Baxter County District Court on January 14th.

There were no injuries or damage to the facility.
