The former city clerk in Marionville has been charged with stealing from the city.

Lawrence County prosecutor Bob George charged Claudia White with felony stealing. White, who is 49 years-old, was the city clerk in Marionville for sixteen years until she was fired this past July.

A Highway Patrol investigation which began in July found that White had not paid her own sewer bill since 2005 and wiped her $2,400 balance off the city's computer. She also allegedly wrote several personal checks for cash to the city, but never deposited those checks in to the city's bank account.

Sgt. James Musche writes in the probable cause statement that he met with White outside her home on August 8 and she told him, "she knew what she did was wrong.....and stupid."

White, who has pleaded not guilty, is due back in court on October 26th.
