The mother and father-in-law of a man gunned down on a street in Noel Monday night have been arrested in connection to the crime.

Noel Marshal Jacob Boles says that when chief deputy Mike Miller arrived at the scene of the shooting on Alexander Street he found 32 year-old Marty E. Reece dead.

Boles says that Reece was shot more than one time and that a handgun believed to be used in the shooting was taken into evidence at the scene.

Reece's wife, Jindy Patterson-Reece, 21, and her father, James Patterson, 47, and Kimberly Patterson, 45, both of Noel, were at the scene when cops got there. The Pattersons allegedly told investigators that Reece was killed while they were defending themselves.

Online court records show that Jindy Patterson had an active order of protection against Marty Reece at the time of his death. Boles says that Marty and Jindy Reece were in the process of divorcing and are the parents of a young child.

According to Boles, the Pattersons were arrested last night (09-09-09) after he, Miller, and a couple of investigators from the McDonald County sheriff's department, met with McDonald County prosecutor Janice Durbin yesterday.

The Pattersons, who have not been charged with second-degree murder, were arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and booked into the McDonald County jail.

They both bonded out today (09-10-09) on a $25,000 probable cause bond each.

I notice Marty E. Reece had a crim-
inal history including order of
protection initiated by his wife
or ex-wife(?) and a misdemeanor
charge of endangering the welfare
of a child. Sounds like a big mess!

Ummm....I hate to get all Holy Terror Grammarian, but you don't need the apostrophes when pluralizing Patterson; you just add an s, giving you Pattersons. The apostrophe suggests something owned by a Patterson.

No problem. Glad to help. :)

I appreciate your work, and check in here every work-day. I particularly like the follow-ups; often, once something drops off the front page, you don't hear much about it.

Did anyone really know the reece family why yes everyone in Noel does how much trouble and horrible they are. People are scared of the reece's its a well know fact. Criminal back ground for most of them is unreal. Its a bad thing that this happened but defending yourself and your family you have to do what you got to do. Note: not all the reece family is bad or horrible. I just know when you says the reeces Noel people know exactly who they are and want to stay away from certain ones cause they are scared.

The reeces are horrible people. I know Eighty percent of them and they are all cruel people. That girl is lucky to be alive. Ive personally seen the terror those people are capable of producing. Prayers to the patterson family. May God be with you.
