The suspected killers of Robert, 70, and Ellen Sheldon, 71, appeared before Judge Richard Copeland in Jasper County Associate Circuit Court this morning via video from the jail and were formally arraigned on murder charges for last falls slayings of the elderly couple.
Matthew D Laurin, 19, Springfield, and Darren Winans, 21, Jasper both pleaded not guilty to two counts each of first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of burglary.
Authorities believe the Sheldons were stabbed multiple times when Laurin and Winans went to burglarize their home and business on N. Black Powder Lane in rural Carthage on October 11, 2008.
Their next scheduled court dates are July 22nd.
