Dustin Cook (TCSO mug shot) |
A man from Galena is in the Taney County jail for allegedly stealing a pickup and then trying to run over two officers who tried to arrest him.
Court documents say Dustin C. Cook, 34, was arrested on December 30, 2013, after authorities received information that he stole a Ford pickup truck and then spray painted it to avoid being caught. Branson police stopped Cook in a hotel parking lot where he nearly hit a detective attempting to apprehend him.
After Cook wrecked the truck, he then fled the scene on foot and was apprehended after authorities found him hiding behind an air conditioner behind a home on Valley View Drive. Police found a loaded rifle nearby, according to court records.
According to the probable cause statement, Cook is a prior and persistent felon with two felony convictions in Missouri and three in Connecticut. He is a suspect in multiple vehicle thefts and he evaded arrest in Greene County on Christmas Eve. Police in Greene County allegedly found a sawed off shotgun in the vehicle Cook was driving when he fled there.
Cook has been charged with tampering with a motor vehicle, two counts of assault of a law enforcement officer and two counts of resisting arrest.
He is being held in the Taney County jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.
