A jury trial has been set for October for a man from Crane who was charged with felony assault almost one year ago.
Marcus Brent Reel, 41, is facing two counts of first-degree assault, class A felonies and two counts of armed criminal action.
Court records say, Reel assaulted Phillip Campbell near Swinging Bridge and Grisham Ford roads. Campbell told investigators that Reel allegedly tried to shoot him but the gun jammed before he assaulted him with a hunting knife.
Campbell told authorities that he and Reel had an ongoing feud and he believes he was assaulted because of it. Campbell, whose finger was almost sliced off in the assault, also sustained a split lip, bruising to the top of his head and bruises to his ribs and back, according to the probable cause statement.
Reel, who was serving five years probation for a 2006 assault at the time of the incident, has been held in Stone County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond since his arrest last year.
Reel was in court last week for a probation violation hearing.
