Former SSCFPD Fire Marshal Charged With Sexual Assault:

A former fire marshal with the Southern Stone County Fire Protection District has been charged with sexual assault.

According to court records, a woman told authorities that Michael Wayne Creswell, 39, forced her to have sex with him at the beginning of 2013.

The woman says she was riding with Creswell to complete hours for fire fighter training when Creswell allegedly told her "she was going to have sex with him or she was not going to get her training."

The woman asked Creswell "why she had to have sex with him and Michael stated because everyone had to."

The probable cause statement says they went back to the victims house and had sex on the floor and when the woman asked Creswell to stop because it hurt, he told her that he "was almost finished and did not stop."

After the alleged sexual assault Creswell told the woman she might be pregnant.

The woman told Captain Rick Porter that she quit going to training classes because every time she was around Creswell "he would reach over and grab her breasts or butt and make comments to her about them having sex or her giving him oral sex."

Creswell, was released from the department on August 10th for job related performance, according to fire chief David Gyger.

In November of 2012, firefighter Matthew Anderson was charged with statutory sodomy involving a child.  He is scheduled to stand trial in March of next year.  

In 2011, two former firefighters with the SSCFPD were convicted of sex related crimes: 

A Jasper County jury found Larry Joe Smith Jr guilty of sexually molesting two daughters of a brother firefighter he was babysitting.  The kids' father was attending firefighter training at the time of the assaults.  He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.  

Jesse Lee Compton, who was charged with statutory rape and statutory sodomy, pleaded guilty to having multiple sexual encounters with a 14 year-old girl in 2008.  He was sentenced to five years behind bars.

"I've seen a lot of fire fighters go down for sexual misconduct in my 30 years, said Gyger.  "It all disturbs me, but what disturbs me most is the child cases.  These people are away from their homes for extended periods of time and sometimes they don't control themselves like they should.

The chief went on to say, "They're adults and responsible for their actions....I don't condone it that's for sure."

Creswell is being held in the Stone County jail on $100,000 bond.
