Brelenda Sue Young (mug shot SCSO)

A woman who stole almost $70,000 from her former employer pleaded guilty last week and was placed on five years probation.

Court documents say that Brelenda Sue Young, 38, of Clever, was employed by Dynatek Laboratories in Galena from December of 2007 until January of 2011. As part of her job duties Young was responsible for managing the company's petty cash account.

Young allegedly admitted to drafting checks, cashing them as petty cash and "helping myself to the funds" in a letter she wrote to the company's owner, James Conti, according to the probable cause statement.

Conti provided authorities copies of checks endorsed and cashed by Young that totaled $68,968.24.  Young was ordered to repay $57,000 and perform 100 hours of community service, which she has already completed.

$20,000 was ordered to be paid within a week of her sentencing and $1,000 a month thereafter until the balance is paid in full.
