A man who has been paroled from several jurisdictions picked the wrong house to burglarize in April of 2011.
An alert Stone County sheriff's deputy noticed a bag near some woods on Joe Bald Road in Kimberling City and discovered items belonging to attorney Steve Garner inside. He also found a boat belonging to Garner grounded nearby.
When authorities contacted Garner, he told them that no one should have been inside his weekend home, or have his boat out. When authorities arrived at Garner's lake house they found a basement window had been broken and the house was ransacked.
After authorities had processed the house for evidence, authorities tracked fingerprints left at the crime scene to Zeno David Vigneault, 34. Vigneault had also used Garner's phone to call friends while he was inside the home, according to evidence presented at Vigneault's sentencing last week.
Vigneault, who has a lengthy rap sheet, was arrested in Illinois after giving false information to a federal agent. He was sentenced to five years in prison for the burglary.
