The father of an eight-month-old little boy from Carthage that was found dead in the Spring River was formally arraigned this morning (02-25-10) on second-degree murder charges today and has pleaded not guilty.

A statewide Amber Alert was active for two days while hundreds of law enforcers and volunteers searched for baby Eddie. The elder Salazar admitted to cops that he made the story up and told them where they would find the baby.

Medical Examiners say the little boy died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Salazar made his court appearance via video link from the Jasper County jail and was appointed a public defender.

Salazar, who is also charged with filing a false police report connected to baby Eddie's disappearance, is scheduled to appear on March 17, 2010.
