Thomas "Tommy" Crabtree mug shot

The mayor pro-tem of Galena has been charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly punching a police chief and threatening a city councilman.

Tommy Crabtree, 69, says rumors of his arrest have been greatly exaggerated. However, charging documents say that Crabtree became angry and clenched his fists during a board of alderman meeting on October 28th and went after council member Paul Kinsley.

Galena police chief Tony Kinser told Detective Richard Porter that he stepped in between Crabtree and Kinsley and was hit in the chest with a closed fist by the mayor pro-tem.

Crabtree says that at some point during the meeting things, "began to go to hell.”

“I wanted to make a motion to go into closed session, but I couldn’t get it out before things went to hell,” he told more than 25 members of the public attending Tuesday's regularly scheduled board meeting.

“What would you do if someone was right up in your face?” Crabtree asked a constituent who brought up the altercation and the elected officials arrest.

Crabtree said he used his arm to push the police chief away, “there was no punch thrown,” he said. “I pushed him with my arm and he went back into the wall.”

The outcome of "the no punch thrown" melee was Crabtree’s arrest by Kisner at the meeting.

Kisner notified the Stone County Sheriff’s Department who then took over the investigation and placed Crabtree in custody.

In the revolving door of Galena city government the tiny Stone County community is currently operating without a mayor.

In the last three months two mayors, the city administrator and three alderman have stepped down.

Mayor Jim Coones resigned in September after it was alleged that he had been illegally writing city checks to his girlfriend for work that he performed. Coones is also being investigated for an alleged third-degree sexual misconduct case involving a former co-worker that took place in July.

In October newly appointed mayor Larry Baker resigned after council member Paul Kinsley stated that he did not like the way the prior evening’s meeting had been handled by the mayor.

“You were very rude to me and others,” Kinsley said. “The way you handled it was wrong and I don’t appreciate it.”
Baker responded, “are you sure you want to go there? Remember, what goes around comes around.”

It's all a bunch of hype. Tom Crabtree has never been in trouble and Kingsley and the COP are in this together. They are both trouble makers. The cop was accused of trafficing drugs and refused a urine test. What's that tell you? Kingsley supposedly has a still in his house, what's that tell you? Get off Tom's case and open your eyes. Anyone who is related to anyone in that court house gets off scott free in this county.
If you've noticed Kingsley is alway there when something happens. They all hang out in the same business everyday scheming up more hoopla. They all need to get a life.
Find out why Kinglsey and the cop were in City Hall after 2:00am going through city records, hmmm. Or were they covering up something or ........
