A LaClede County jail employee has been charged with stealing.

Prosecutors say that jailer Travis Tucker, 31, Eldridge, allegedly stole $80.00 that Ryan Bethel attempted to place on an inmates commissary account on May 9, 2009.

Bethel told Tucker to give the receipt for the money to the inmate, however, the inmate never received the receipt.

When a detective questioned Tucker about the alleged theft he told him he was distracted and placed the money in his pocket. When questioned further, Tucker said that he filled out the receipt book, voided the entry and slipped the money in his pocket.

Tucker is scheduled to appear in Associate Court on July 13th.
