A man from Joplin was sentenced to close to twelve years in federal prison yesterday (01-29-08) for traveling across state lines in an attempt to have sex with a toddler.Federal prosecutors say that 33 year-old Jeffrey Cornell Lewis was texting and chatting over the computer with a woman from Oklahoma from December 2007 until last summer.
In July Lewis asked the woman to bring her 3-year-old daughter to a Miami, OK, motel.
What Lewis didn't know was that the woman had notified cops when Lewis told her that he wanted to have sex with her 3-year-old child as well as her 13-year-old daughter.
Cops busted Lewis after he registered and paid for the motel room.
Lewis was also ordered to pay $1,100 in fines and was mandated to be under court supervision for seven years after his release from prison.
