Taney County Jeff Merrell says it was a conspiracy between Friend and several of his family members that led to the couples deaths.
Friends son, Phillip, has already pleaded guilty to amended charges of second-degree murder. His wife, Windy, and uncle Robert Porter are scheduled to stand trial for their alleged involvement in the next few months. The trial of Friend's cousin, Dusty Hicks, is scheduled to begin in May.
The Porters were kidnapped from their home near Williard in April of 2011. Their bodies were discovered about three months later on property in rural Taney County that Tony Friend used to frequent as a young man.
In exchange for Friend's guilty plea to two counts of first-degree murder, charges of felonious restraint and armed criminal action against were dismissed against him.
