The search for a suspected serial arsonist has intensified after another arson fire was set at an apartment complex in Reeds Spring last weekend.

In the past month, five arson fires, all within walking distance of each other, have been sparked in the Reeds Spring area and authorities are concerned that the firebug's actions are getting more dangerous.

The latest fire was at the Valley View Apartments at 118 Estate Lane on Friday (01-24-14.)  As in the other fire at Well Springs Apartments, the fire was started at a dryer vent on the outside of the building.  Fires were also intentionally set at The Chop Shop Hair and Nail Salon and a grass fire in a field.

The arsonist also attempted to set a garage on fire next to The Chop Shop.

Southern Stone County Fire Protection District public information officer Eric Nielsen says in the latest fire the tenant left to run errands and came back about 45 minutes later.  When she opened the front door she saw the flames and called 9-1-1.

A red flag warning was in effect at the time of the latest blaze due to high winds.

"With the high winds we were concerned that it could get away from us.  It could have been a lot worse...all accidental causes have been ruled out," said Nielsen.

"And in broad daylight when anyone could see them.  We don't if they're challenging us or just being mischievous."
