2012 National Day of Prayer Participants |
"Pray for America" is the theme of this years' National Day of Prayer in Stone County. This will be the 14th year that citizens in Stone County can take part in the National Day of Prayer.
Stone County Assessor Brad Hudson is again coordinating the event which will take place at 10 a.m. on May 2nd on the lawn of the courthouse on the square.
Former Stone County Assessor Allen Berkstresser, who is a minister, and Stone County resident Mary Kuyper instituted the annual event in 1999. The first year there were about 30 people that attended," said Berkstresser. Those numbers grew to over 100 participants before Bekstresser retired in 2009.
Mrs. Kuyper isn't able to be as actively involved in the planning of the event due to declining health, but she is a guiding light in the annual event, according to Hudson.
In case of inclement weather the event will be held inside the Stone County Annex, which is across the street from the old courthouse.
