Khighla Parks is missing was murdered

Authorities in Benton County have contacted their colleagues in Greene County about a missing teenager from Greene County who could possibly be connected to a weighted-down, female body that was recovered from Truman Lake on Sunday (09-30-12.)

“Yes, they’ve contacted us,” Arnott said. “They’re looking at several missing person reports.”

One of those missing persons authorities are considering is Khighla Parks, a 15-year-old girl from Willard.  Some people say they saw Khighla, who had run away before, near the roundabout at the Springfield-Branson Regional airport on the afternoon of September 20th. Parks sometimes "ran with a fast crowd," according to her grandmother.

Greene County authorities say Khighla was last seen in the area of Highway AB and Highway EE, not far from her home in northwest Greene County about 5 p.m. on September 20th.

Bonnie Adams, who is Khighla's grandmother, says she has provided authorities with a hair and toothbrush belonging to Khighla and they are awaiting word on whether or not the remains found belong to their missing loved one. "The waiting is excruciating," said Adams

Khighla told family members that she was upset that they wouldn't let a 19 year-old boy she had met in Highlandville at a horse sale come out to their property to ride, and she was heading to a Gazebo in a nearby cemetery about 4 p.m. on the 20th.

The family says Khighla had not accessed her facebook page for several days, but someone did access it on the day the body was pulled from Truman Lake.

Arnott says it's still too early to know if Parks is the victim found near Warsaw.

Authorities say the death of the young woman, who is described as 13 to 20 years old and roughly 5 feet, 8 inches tall, is definitely a homicide. Parks is approximately 5 feet, nine inches, according to Adams

Arnott says the turnaround for DNA determination is a fairly quick process "depending on how fast the Highway Patrol can get the DNA in the lab."

UPDATED 10-05-12:

Authorities say DNA has confirmed that the body found floating in Truman Lake on September 30th was indeed Khighla Parks.

Authorities are asking anyone with any information about Khighla's murder to call the Benton County Sheriff's office at 660-438-6135; the Greene County Sheriff's Office at 417-868-4040; Highway Patrol Troop A at 816-622-0800 or Troop D at 417-895-6868 or 9-1-1.

UPDATE 10-08-12:

Benton County authorities say the investigation into Khighla's murder has led them to Dallas County.

Authorities say they believe that something that happened in the area of Buffalo led to the teens death.

If you have any information that can help authorities in their investigation you're asked to call the Benton County Sheriff's office at 660-438-6135; the Greene County Sheriff's Office at 417-868-4040; Highway Patrol Troop A at 816-622-0800 or Troop D at 417-895-6868 or 9-1-1.

I don't know who said that she ran with a fast crowd because her grandmother would never say that because she didn't. Khighla is a very wonder friend/sister and we miss her very much, We love her and want her back.
Khighla if you're reading this please please come home. We need you here. Love you and miss you <3

Bonnie DID tell me that.

We don't believe Bonnie told you that! She wasn't talking to anyone about the case. Not even close friends. So why would she say such a thing to you...a stranger. You shouldn't post things you have no clue about. She declined comment to everyone I'm sure that includes you.

You might want to ask her before you start pointing fingers.

I am saddened that it turned out to be Khighla.

Perceptions and contexts. That is all.

Lady, you're the one pointing fingers. Basically calling her a runaway. Clearly she didn't run away. You need to leave the family alone.. It's people like you who start rumors.

No where in this article did I say Khighla had run away. I said she had previously ran away. That fact was given to me by authorities as well as family.

And for the record, there is only one person who has called me lady in this case. So I know who you are.

I will continue to pray for your family!

Well that, and your IP address.

Do you really think I care if you know who I am? What does that have to do with anything? Well nothing. The fact that you mentioned her as a "previous run away" and that she "ran with a fast crowd" makes people who didn't know her assume she ran and to not really look out for her assuming she'd come home. If you chose to "blog" about any future missing persons I'd hope you'd keep certain things off your blog so that folks won't assume the person ran and and take this serious. Run sways aren't taken as serious people we know are taken. That was my point, since you can't seem to get it.

And for the record. I'm not related to the family. I'm a friend who read your blog and didn't like how you made Khighla out to be. Everyone I know who read your blog didn't like it. Don't pray for my family, pray for Khighla's.

And to Khighla's family. I'm sorry I let this lady get the best of me. Like you, I knew in my heart that she didn't run away and I never should have responded to this lady's blog in the first place. It won't happen again. I love you guys!

What you don't seem to understand is that the Greene County Sheriff's Office also stated that Khighla had a history of running away.

Also, I don't just blog - I am a reporter for a newspaper.

I will continue to pray for justice for Khighla, her family and you.
