Dwayne D. James (mug shot SCSO)

A man from Reeds Spring who attempted to light his wife on fire during a domestic assault in May has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

According to the probable cause statement, Dwayne D. James, 41, accused his wife of using drugs then sprayed sprayed her with WD-40 and attempted to use a cigarette lighter to light her on fire.

When James was unable to spark the blaze, he “proceeded to punch her four to five times in the top of her head with a closed fist,” according to the statement.

In a negotiated plea agreement, James agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge that was then used to revoke his probation.

Prosecutor Matt Selby says James was sentenced to seven years for possession of a controlled substance, five years for distribution of a controlled substance and 4 years for fraudulent use of a credit device.

Those sentences were ordered to be served concurrent (at the same time) to each other.
