Marsha Diane Clarke (mug shot SCSO)

A Stone County woman who stabbed her landlord last September in a dispute over a hot water heater has been sentenced to fifteen years in prison.
-
Witnesses told investigators that Marsha Diane Clarke, 54, and her live-in boyfriend Marty David Fenley, 45, had been drinking and were outside their apartment at 1700 Shelvin Rock Road arguing about rent and a dog living inside the couples apartment when Clarke went inside, grabbed a knife and used it to stab Chad Huber.
-
Huber, suffered severe injuries to his intestines and his heart was also punctured in the attack, will have permanent injuries related to the stabbing, according to Stone County prosecutor Matt Selby.
-
During Clarke's sentencing, Selby told circuit court Judge Robert Wiley, "there is only one reason to stab a person in the abdomen with a knife and that intent is to kill someone.  The victim did suffer serious injuries and was very fortunate to even survive."
-
After hearing the evidence, Judge Wiley sentenced the defendant to 120 "shock time" over objections by Selby.
-
What that means is that after Clarke serves 120 days in prison Wiley could place her on probation.
