Stephanie Maylee was found dead in hospital waiting room

Authorities in Rolla are investigating the death of a woman found in a hospitality/waiting room at Phelps County Regional Medical Center.

Stephanie Maylee, 25,  of Rolla, who had given birth to a baby boy by Cesarean Section on Friday, was found dead about 10 a.m. Monday (02-13-12.)

Maylee, who had been discharged from the hospital, was staying in the hospitality room to be near her little boy, Blake, who was still hospitalized.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed today.  A forensic pathologist, who has not been consulted in this case, says a pulmonary embolism or Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) are possible causes in Maylee's death.

Police are not releasing further details, but they are asking anyone with any information about Maylee to call Rolla Police Detective Robert Jones at (573) 308-1213.

UPDATE 02-15-12:

Preliminary autopsy results show that Maylee's death was caused by "an apparent self induced prescription medication overdose,"  according to a news release from the Rolla police department.

Authorities are now saying that Maylee was staying in a "private" hospitality room at the hospital.
