The father of an eight-month-old found dead in the Spring River on February 6th has pleaded not guilty to filing a false police reported related to his baby boy's disappearance.
Eddie Salazar Sr., 29, Carthage, told cops that two masked men broke into his house, beat him unconscious and kidnapped Eddie Salazar Jr. on Friday February 5, 2010. A statewide Amber Alert was issued for the infant and authorities say Salazar has allegedly confessed that he made the story up.
An autopsy on baby Eddie was completed earlier this week in Columbia, however, preliminary autopsy results have not been released. Jasper County prosecutor Dean Dankelson says those results and any charges related to the little boy's death could take up to two weeks.
Visitation for baby Eddie will be held Friday from 5 - 7 p.m. at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage. Funeral service are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Park Cemetery in Carthage.
A memorial facebook page has been set up for Eddie.
Salazar is scheduled to appear in court again on this charge on March 3rd.
