Springfield Little Theatre has turned over documents related to the discovery of about $11,000 missing from the box office to police.
The funds were allegedly taken from a separate account not related to the Theatre’s general operating account or its accounts for grant funds, donor contributions or development campaigns.
The misappropriation came to light in late January after unexplained discrepancies were noted during the preparation of the Theatre’s regular financial reports. An internal investigation was launched, and within just a few days the method used and the individual believed to be responsible were discovered.
The SLT board of directors voted to terminate the individual believed to be responsible, and will file a claim with their insurance company to recoup the missing money.
