A new tentative trial date has been set for the man accused of killing a Nixa beauty queen twenty five years-age.

Gerald Carnahan, who was always the chief suspect in the 1985 murder of Jackie Johns, was charged with her death in August of 2007 after a Highway Patrol allegedly matched DNA found on the woman's body to Carnahan's.

There have been numerous delays in getting the case to trial, the latest is because Carnahan's attorney, Dee Wampler, is fighting kidney and prostate cancer.

Greene County prosecutor Darrell Moore and Wampler's partner, Joe Passaniese, had a teleconference with Judge Jamison today and settled on a tentative September 13th trial setting.

A firm date should be announced sometime next week.

Darrell Moore would like to see this case go to trial before the end of the year citing Les Johns, Jackies father's, failing health and the fact that he will no longer be in office as he is seeking Congressman Roy Blunt's congressional seat.
