A Christian County man who was originally charged with distribution of a controlled substance in connection with the April death of his teenage girlfriend has pleaded guilty to amended charges.

Twenty year-old Bret Turner of Nixa pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a controlled substance last Friday.

Christian County chief assistant prosecutor Donovan Dobbs said, "the drug/s that Turner gave Amanda Adkins weren't the only things that caused her death.

"We don't have the final toxicology reports back, but, when Turner was arrested he had hydrocodone on his person that he didn't have a prescription for and that's why we amended the charge," Dobbs said.

"Because Mr. Turner pleaded guilty without a plea agreement, once final toxicology reports come in we will review them and see if the evidence we receive warrants the filing of any additional charges," according to Dobbs.

Turner, who pleaded guilty to similar charges earlier this year in Greene County, was sentenced to seven years in prison on the Christian County charges.

Those sentences are to run concurrently (at the same time.)
