The Willard Police Department and the Greene County prosecutors office are investigating what they call the "suspicious death of an infant. "
First responders were dispatched to a home on Silverleaf in northern Greene County about 2:45 p.m. on January 6th because Lucas Payton Theede-Bennett had stopped breathing at the home of his babysitter.
The nine month-old little boy died about an hour later at a Springfield hospital.
Greene County assistant prosecutor Todd Myers says, "it could be sometime before any decisions regarding this case are made."
The State Technical Assistance Team, part of the Department of Social Services that investigates suspicious child fatalities, is investigating along with, medical examiners and prosecutors. An autopsy has been conducted. It could take several weeks before investigators know the results of toxicology tests.
Lucas is survived by his mother Amanda Theede, and father Sean Bennett, grandparents and a host of other family and friends.
