The former head of the Springfield chapter of the NAACP, Reverend Larry Maddox, called authorities this morning after he discovered something that he believed was a pipe bomb on his vehicle.
After a bomb-robot retrieved the device, and bomb investigators and firefighters got a closer look at it they discovered that it was a very realistic fake, according to Battalion Chief Kevin Smart.
Services were canceled for the morning at Maddox's church, New Growth Ministries, so that investigators could bring in a bomb sniffing dog to check the church and it's premises.
The fire marshal's office is investigating the incident. They say that they have several persons of interest that they want to talk to.
