Residents and visitors in Kimberling City will soon notice a new patrol car to the city's fleet.

Police Chief Craig Alexander says the department recently sold two squad cars for about $4,200 more than was anticipated and he is just waiting on approval from the board of alderman to purchase a 2014 Dodge Charger.

Alexander says the new patrol car will be purchased with grant money.

Chief Alexander also says there is grant money available that should allow the department to purchase new bulletproof vests for officers.  He says vests the five year warranty on vests currently being used will soon expire and that puts the city at a liability.

Alexander estimates vests for three officers will cost about $2,500.  He told city leaders that he has been approved for the grant every time he's applied for it.
