Prosecutor Drops Sexual Misconduct Charges Against Newman:

Taney County prosecutor Jeff Merrell has dropped two counts of sexual misconduct against former Kanakuk Kamp director Peter "Pete" Newman.

Merrell says that "the decision was made that those counts were superfluous to what he was facing and wouldn't enhance any sentence that he could face."

Newman was charged in September and November with several sex crimes involving young boys who had been "kampers" at the Christian based youth camp.

Merrell says that at this point he doesn't believe that there will be a plea offer in Newman's cases and, there are currently no negotiations be discussed with Newman's attorney Tom Carver.

Newman was bound over for trial last month and is scheduled to be formally arraigned in Taney County circuit court on December 17th.

  1. Kathee, people "close" to him claim he's so sorry and repentant. If he indeed is, then that would mean he's going to admit his guilt publicly, as well as to the Lord. If/when he does the morally/spiritually RIGHT THING and confesses to his many crimes, then what? This was asked of you on the last post, but you didn't respond. Thanks.

  2. I'm sorry I didn't respond to your last post.

The case will still move forward. The judge will listen to his words if he is found guilty and chooses to address the court and the victims at sentencing.

  9. All total, Newman is facing at this point in time:
3 counts of 1st degree sodomy
3 counts of 2nd degree sodomy
4 counts of enticement of a child

    Casenet should be updated soon!

  10. What kind of prison-time does one receive for these crimes, if found guilty?

  11. Probably every boy he ever met was "Enticed" by him, if he thought he could have his pleasure with them....4000 would probably be more likely.

  12. I believe he will get seven years on each of the charges, probably to be served concurrently (ath same time)

  13. The enticement charges are at LEAST 5 years each, 1st degree sodomy is at least 10 years each count, and 2nd degree sodomy is 2-7 years each count. Please don't presume what a judge or jury would do...you do not know if they will be consecutively or concurrently served.

  14. 7 years total for all of those crimes is ridiculous. Time to give O'Reilly a call!

  15. Seven yrs on each charge served concurrently would bring so much outrage from the community and families across this nation that he would wish he was locked up to be protected for the rest of his life. Plus the judges (or whoever) would be dragged through the mud in the media, O-Rielly, and such that this would be a HUGE mistake. Theres way too much attention on this case and way too much anger for them to get away with just slapping him on the wrist with 7 or 15 or 25 or even 40 years. If he gets what he deserves for all the crimes he's done, then he never gets out. Come to think of it, if he gets what he deserves, then he's slowly tortured for about 60 years.

  19. Kathee, it says on Casenet that there was a request by the Defendant for disclosure and a plea was offered.....do you know any details??

Is Pete requesting disclosure so that he can weigh whether or not he would take his chances in a trial?

Or was it HIM who offered some sort of plea???

    Looking for clarification.

Thanks for what you do to keep us informed!

  20. Look for a plea announcement soon. Something in the neighborhood of 6-8 years, of which he'll serve 4-5.

Who came to court with him? Parents? Brothers? Wife? Supporters?

    Were Kanakuk-Camp Directors/Owners there?

    Thanks.
