Attorney Dale Wiley waived the preliminary hearing for a Crane man charged with felony assault and armed criminal action.

Authorities say Marc Reel, 40, allegedly attempted to shoot Phillip Campbell in September and when the pistol misfired he pulled a hunting knife and tried to stab him in the neck. One of Campbell's fingers was nearly severed when he tried to protect his neck, according to court documents.

Reel, who is being held in the Stone County Jail on one million dollars bond, is scheduled to be formally arraigned in circuit court on January 8th.
