The interim presiding judge for the 39th District, which includes Stone, Barry and Lawrence counties, was recently interviewed for a vacant seat on the Missouri Supreme Court.
Judge Alan Blankenship was one of eighteen candidates selected that were interviewed last Wednesday (10-10-12) by the Missouri Appellate Judicial Commission in Jefferson City.
Blankenship, who said he has had a lot of anxious moments since learning he was one of the candidates, was not selected as on of the three finalists. He says he submitted his application after encouragement from several judges, attorney's and appellate judges.
"Although I wasn't chosen for this position this time, I'm a fan of the process and I do believe the commission members were thoughtful and considered every one's qualifications."
After conducting six hours of interviews and deliberating for three hours, the nominees selected to move on were Stanley J. Wallach of the St.Louis area; Jackson County Circuit Judge Michael W. Manners of Lees Summit; and Paul C. Wilson of Jefferson City.
The vacancy on the state's high court was created due to the retirement of drug court advocate Judge William Ray Price Jr.
Governor Nixon will have sixty days to name Price's replacement. If he doesn't, the commission will name the replacement.
Blankenship, who is actively involved with Stone County's drug court, says he loves what he does. "If I'm being honest, if I had gotten picked, I would have missed what I do now."
