Lampe Man Who Helped Apprehend Murder Suspects Selected As MO Sheriff's Association Citizen of the Year:

A Lampe man who helped apprehend two teen murder suspects in January has been selected as the 2013 Missouri Sheriff's Association Citizen of the Year.

Sheriff Doug Rader says he nominated Rick Balsley last month because he is a model citizen.  He received word on July 8th that Balsley had been selected for the award.

Balsley held Anthony Zarro and Christopher Allen, who are each charged with first-degree murder, at gunpoint after he witnessed the murder suspects allegedly load stolen items into Paul and Susan Brooks vehicle.  When authorities arrived, they found the Brookses stabbed and bludgeoned bodies inside their son's lakefront home in Lampe. 

"I nominated him because he is the model of what a good neighbor is by watching out for his other neighbors....he went above and beyond what a good neighbor is," said Rader.

Balsley will be honored at a banquet on July 29th in Springfield.
